Esri Virtual Campus Training

The USC campus site license for Esri GIS software products includes an Esri Virtual Campus Training Subscription. This subscription entitles USC faculty, staff, and students to free, unlimited access to online courses at Esri’s Virtual Campus. These courses are short (generally 2-4 hours), web-based course modules modeled on the key workflows that Esri users employ.

To request an access code for a free registration, please email Andrea Macko, Spatial Sciences Institute fiscal administrator, from your USC email account with the information about the course in which you are interested. Please do not email anyone at Esri to request this access code. You will receive the access code from Esri and can then proceed with your course registration.

FAQ

Q: How do I know if my computer is capable to run ArcGIS for Desktop?
A:   If you are not sure about the capacity of the computer on which you plan to run ArcGIS for Desktop, use this link to test your hardware and software.
Q: How do I enable Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5?
A: As a pre-requisite, you need to have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed prior to installing ArcGIS for Desktop. Use this link on how to enable Microsoft .NET 3.5 on your desktop: .
Q: How can I install ArcGIS for Desktop on my Apple computer?
 A: ArcGIS for Desktop only runs under Microsoft Windows OS. If you plan to use an Apple computer, use the following link to find out what you need in order to install ArcGIS for Desktop on an Apple computer: https://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/2016/03/08/arcgis-pro-in-mac-os-x/.
Q: I’m having problems with installing my student ArcGIS for Desktop license. Who can help me?

Q: How do I reactivate my student license?
 A: If you need to move your ArcGIS for Desktop license to a different computer, make sure you de-authorize the license before uninstalling the software in order to preserve your student trial license.

  1. Launch ArcGIS Administrator as an Administrator.
  2. Select Support Operations and click on Deauthorize.

If you already uninstalled ArcGIS for Desktop before you deauthorized ArcGIS Desktop from your computer, download the ArcGIS Deauthorization Tool using the following link: http://support.esri.com/cn/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/38656.

If your computer crashed and can’t be recovered, or you reformatted your desktop before deauthorizing ArcGIS for Desktop, please send a request using your USC email address, with your contact information and the student trial license key, to spatial_support@usc.edu. We will get back to you within three business days.

Q: My one-year student license is about to expire or has expired. May I get a new one?
 A: Yes, if you currently are a USC student. Please email Stephanie Tran, Spatial Sciences Institute administrative assistant, from your official USC email. Please include your USC 10-digit ID and the number of the course in which you are using the software in your request. You will be emailed a license and download instructions within three business days.
Q: How do I get an ArcGIS Online account?
 A: Students can request an account by emailing spatial_support@usc.edu from your official USC email account, and once their account is authorized, they will be assigned 50 online credits. 
Q: How can I manage the credits in my ArcGIS Online account?
 A: You are assigned 50 online credits when the account is created. To learn more about how these credits will be consumed, use the following link: http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisonline/credits
Q: When will my ArcGIS Online account expire?
 A: All student ArcGIS Online accounts will be removed 30 days after the end of the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters. 
Q: What do I do with the data, models, and maps I have created if I wish to keep them after my ArcGIS Online account has expired?

Q: How do I extend the expiry date for my ArcGIS Online account?
 A: Before your account expires, please email spatial_support@usc.edu indicating you want to keep your ArcGIS Online account for the following semester with your ArcGIS Online account name. You must be enrolled in the following semester for your account expiry date to be extended in this way.
