Professor Kemp Presents GIScience Publication Outlet Assessment Plan at Avignon Conference

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

SSI Professor Karen Kemp traveled to the Association of Geographic Information Laboratories Europe (AGILE) annual conference in Avignon, France for their annual International Conference on Geographic Information Science. At the conference, Kemp and two co-authors unveiled plans to survey Geographic Information Science professionals to rank the publication outlets available in the field.

Kemp explained the need for clear rankings in the field to inform both selection and promotion committees and for junior researchers to choose publication outlets.  Current ranking systems do not include conference proceedings and lack a process for maintenance.

Researchers can participate in the survey if they: 1) hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, 2) research in any GIScience-related field, and 3) have published in at least five different journals with international readership.  Further information can be found at the assessment website: http://ifgi.uni-muenster.de/delphi/

Professor Kemp is a long-time leader in GIScience education and teaches in the SSI GIST M.S. program in addition to maintaining an active research program.
