Finch Named Chair of NIH Center for Scientific Review Study Section

Brian Finch, Professor (Research) of Sociology and Spatial Sciences has recently been named chair of one of the review boards at the National Institutes of Health Center for Scientific Review (CSR).  The CSR is the body that assesses the merit of research proposals that are received by the NIH and is dedicated to fair, timely, and expert reviews that are unaffected by external influences.

Professor Finch will chair the Social Sciences and Population Studies (A) Study Section, which has responsibility for research proposals that link biological, social, cultural, economic, geographic, institutional, behavioral, developmental and biomedical factors and processes with populations.  Finch has served on the study section and will take over as chair on July 1, 2014.  

Professor Finch joined USC in 2013 as the Director of the Southern California Population Research Center. He had previously held appointments at San Diego State University as the Director of the Center for Health Equity Research & Policy and at RAND Corporation as a Senior Demographer.  His research addresses socioeconomic and race/ethnic disparities in health outcomes in early life.
