The field of bibliometrics, AKA scientometrics or informetrics, has a formal history of ~50 years, dating to the initial usage of the paperbound Science Citation Index (de Solla Price, 1965). With the movement of that database to electronic forms, and access, modern tools emerged to enable the analysis of scientific networks. This allows for the development of an understanding of key concepts, people, and organizations in a research field.

Dr. Olsen will review how students, in particular, can make use of this technology to identify key publications for study and reference, key concepts, and possibly interesting ideas like where there may be a good job waiting.
