The Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI) is joining the Los Angeles County to celebrate the 2020 GIS Day. This year, the LA County GIS Day event will be virtual over Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19.

SSI and nearly 40 other academic institutions, agencies and private sector companies will present talks, workshops, and a popular GIS Day Game.

One of SSI’s research projects will be featured in the session “Collaboration is Key: Visioning and Planning a Community Impact GIS Project” on Thursday, November 19, 2020, 12:30 pm. In this session, Manish Dasaur, Managing Director, Accenture Analytics & Artificial Intelligence, and SSI students Alicia Adiwidjaja and Adam Owens will share the results of the Accenture-SSI collaboration with LA County. The Accenture-SSI collaboration prepared a pilot analysis for expanding the LA Country Countywide Address Management System (CAMS) to include a trail system use case. The speakers will discuss how to collaborate, vision and execute GIS projects, even with limited resources.

SSI also is among the exhibitors presenting a virtual booth. Visit the SSI booth.

Since 1999, GIS Day has been celebrated internationally on the third Wednesday of November. In the United States, GIS Day is a part of National Geography Awareness Week. On this day, users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology share real-world applications that make a difference in our society.
