Xinyi Ma has a BA in International Studies and Economics from Emory University. As an undergraduate student, she examined the social, economic and political processes underlying the social problems of unemployment and ill-health in China, India and Malaysia.

At Emory University, Xinyi was involved in numerous student activities, including Emory China Care, Emory Mulan Dance, the International Student Advocacy Board, the Chinese Student Association and the Anime Club.

She also has been a junior policy researcher with the China Knowledge Center of the Kenxing Research Institute in Shanghai, China, working on project design and research execution, analysis and synthesis on renewable energy policies. In addition, she has been an international research intern with Huatai Research Institute in Shanghai, China, analyzing military and political tensions in East Asia.

In the Global Security Studies program, Xinyi is interested in issues relating to the use of force and the effective use of cybersecurity.

Xinyi speaks Mandarin and Korean.
