Yan Xu

Yan Xu earned her Bachelor of Science in Urban and Environmental Science from Peking University in Beijing, China, and then earned her Master of Arts in Geography and a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Science and Technology from the University of Southern California. She currently works as a Research Associate in the Geosoft Lab in the Institute of Remote Sensing & GIS Research at Peking University. Yan’s previous experience includes the LA County Metropolitan Transportation Authority where she served as Senior Transportation Planner and GIS Analyst. Her return to China during a period of rapid economic expansion allowed her to develop an extensive background in environmental planning and urban growth, public health and spatial data analytics. Yan is interested in researching pollution and the related health and social issues. She intends to study public health risks associated with various types of pollutants and identify mitigation measures to make urban environments more sustainable.
