“Cancer Disparities across Neighborhoods: Ethnic Enclaves and Colorectal Cancer Outcomes among Asian Americans in Los Angeles County”

Living in an ethnic enclave may exert influences on residents’ cancer outcomes in complex ways. However, current findings on the enclave-cancer relationships are limited and inconclusive. My dissertation uses Census and street signage data to spatially define ethnic enclaves for four Asian subgroups in Los Angeles County. It seeks to explore the associations between living in an Asian enclave and colorectal cancer diagnosis and survival outcomes and assess whether the associations differ by demographic and/or tumor characteristics.
