Associate Director Dan Goldberg Recruited to Texas A&M

GIS Research Laboratory Associate Director Dan Goldberg has accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Geography at Texas A&M University.  SSI faculty, staff, students, and friends gathered at a local eatery to wish him well in this new endeavor and to celebrate his accomplishments at USC.

Dr. Goldberg first arrived at USC in 2002 and earned both Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from USC before joining the SSI faculty as Assistant Professor (Research) in 2010.  During his tenure at USC, he developed a highly successful online geocoding systemorganized the first international geocoding conference, developed extensive inter-departmental and cross-school collaborations, and negotiated expanded SSI access to high-resolution regional GIS data in addition to publishing a dozen scientific papers and book chapters.

Colleagues will miss Dan’s contributions to the intellectual and social life of the Institute and turned out in numbers to see him off into the next chapter of his professional career. The presence of friends and collaborators fromDornsife, MarshallViterbi, and Keck was a testament to Dan’s unique abilities and interdisciplinary curiosity.
