SSI grad student Rachel Russell will have a busy summer. She is defending her Ph.D. dissertation, Environmental Equity and Urban Sustainability: An Analysis of Untreated Household Wastewater in Tijuana, this August. Then she will be moving to Wisconsin, where she has been appointed Assistant Professor of Environmental Planning and Policy in the department of Public and Environmental Affairs at theUniversity of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
In her new position, Rachel will be in charge of all the GIS courses in her unit: one introductory course and two upper-division, project-based courses. She will also be teaching Environment and Society and Environmental Planning courses.
Rachel will advise undergrads and students in the Environmental Science and Policy MA program.
On the research front, Dr. Russell plans to develop a local research program on green stormwater infrastructure in Green Bay and Milwaukee with a particular focus on how this infrastructure improves access to green space and urban agriculture for low-income communities and communities of color. In addition, she plans to continue work on transborder environmental governance issues along the U.S.-Mexico border.
