UCGIS Plans Pre-Symposium Workshops

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Univeristy Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS)  has an exciting slate of Pre-Symposium Workshops planned leading up to its May 21-23, 2013 Symposium, which include a variety of opportunities for all day and half day learning opportunities. The technical workshops include timely topics such as streaming spatial data, spatial SQL and spatial statistics. The collaborative track includes opportunities to become engaged in two ongoing community efforts including the Sustainable Communities Learning Network and the GIS&T Body of Knowledge 2.0. Finally, an all day workshop will allow participants with an interest in volunteered geographic information to delve into some of the theoretical and practical issues associated with research and community projects that leverage VGI.

The main Symposium will emphasize collaboration across communities and will have a strong line-up of panel sessions and plenary speakers addressing many of the challenges and opportunities associated with integrative, multidisciplinary and multi-community approaches to GIScience. In addition, we will be recognizing outstanding contributors to GIScience education and research.

DEADLINE EXTENDED. You can still participate in the meeting by submitting a paper or extended abstract on GIScience research or education related to the meeting theme or on general topics in GIScience research and education. Paper submission guidelines and details on travel awards, special issues and best paper awards can be found here: bit.ly/SV898n. Papers and extended abstracts are due by March 15, 2013.
