2013 B.A., Political Science, Minor in Law and Society, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
Kayla earned her B.A. in Political Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2013, and earned her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from The George Washington University's Milken Institute of Public Health in 2015. Since graduating, she has spent the majority of her career working as an epidemiologist at the California Department of Public Health, specifically focusing on HPV and cervical cancer.
Kayla has had the opportunity to present her research on racial/ethnic and structural disparities in cervical cancer prevention and treatment at several international conferences, and recently published her first manuscript on the distribution of vaccine-preventable HPV types.
As a Population, Health and Place student at USC, Kayla is interested in researching how spatial and sociodemographic factors contribute to cancer incidence and mortality. In her future career, she wants to be a leader in identifying gaps in cancer prevention in California.
