Curriculum Vitae

2017       Ph.D., City and Regional Planning, University of California, Berkeley
2006       M.S., Information Management, Arizona State University
2004       B.S., Computer Information Systems, Arizona State University

After receiving his Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning from the University of California, Berkeley, Boeing completed a postdoc in Berkeley’s Urban Analytics Lab. Prior to joining USC, he was an assistant professor of Urban Informatics and Planning at Northeastern University. He has consulted for various planning, policy, and public health organizations including Calthorpe Analytics, The Public Good Projects, UrbanSim Inc, Accenture, and Raimi & Associates.

His research revolves around urban informatics and geospatial data science, transportation planning and housing. Recent projects have focused on 1) the nature and character of urban street networks around the world and 2) how big data and tech platforms shape our understanding of housing affordability. He developed and maintains the OSMnx street network modeling software.

Boeing has presented his recent research in plenary addresses at the American Association of Geographers Annual Meeting and Architect of the Future Conference, and in an invited presentation at the Venice Biennale. His work has been shortlisted for the Information Is Beautiful Awards and the NetSci Visualization Awards and has been covered by ForbesSlateThe Washington PostThe San Francisco ChronicleThe Boston Globe, and various other media outlets.
