ACM SIGSPATIAL
ACM SIGSPATIAL addresses issues related to the acquisition, management and processing of spatially-related information with a focus on algorithmic, geometric and visual considerations. The organization also hosts the ACM SIGSPATIAL International Conference on Advances in Geographic Information Systems, an annual event that began in 1993.
American Association of Geographers (AAG)
The American Association of Geographers is a nonprofit scientific and educational society founded in 1904. AAG members from more than 100 countries share resources and information regarding the advancement of geography, including theory, methods and practice.
American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS)
Founded in 1934, the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) is a scientific association serving thousands of professional members around the world. Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS)
The mission of the Cartography and Geographic Information Society is to support research, education and practice to improve the understanding, creation, analysis and use of maps and geographic information to support effective decision-making and improve the quality of life. CaGIS offers scholarships for and information resources. The society’s journal, Cartography and Geographic Information Science is one of the three official journals of the International Cartographic Association (ICA).
Directions Magazine
Directions Magazine publishes news and education GIS content from experts in the field. The topics explored cover the implementation and usage of GIS across numerous scenarios, including business intelligence, city planning, health, software, big data and government. The magazine also produces GIS webinars with expert presenters from both business and academic settings.
Esri ArcNews
Esri’s ArcNews looks at both geospatial-specific and broader technology trends that may impact the work of GIS professionals. International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS)
The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing is an organization dedicated to promoting international cooperation in the advancement of photogrammetry and remote sensing and their applications. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA)

U.S. Department of Labor Geospatial Technology Competency Model (GTCM)
The Geospatial Technology Competency Model was developed to identify the skills that GIS professionals need to be successful in the industry. It consists of academic proficiencies such as knowledge of geographic, science and engineering. As an individual’s skillset matures, they gain industry-specific skills such as GIS software development, spatial analysis and modeling and data acquisition.
UCGIS Body of Knowledge
The UCGIS Body of Knowledge (BoK) is one of the top resources in the industry for innovative applied knowledge. Originally published in 2006, the BoK is continually updated with original content, covering topics ranging from leveraging multispectral images to analytical models for urban growth and other geospatial phenomena.
United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF)
USGIF provides educational resources, industry news and hosts geospatial events for GIS professionals. GEOINT articles are developed by contributions from a mix of backgrounds, including from industry, government and military organizations.
University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS)
The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) is a non-profit organization that creates and supports communities for GIS research, education and policy in higher education. The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA)
The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) is a non-profit built to create a geospatial community and provide ongoing education and support for geospatial experts, such as through regular webinars.
