USC Dornsife provides a variety of courses and programs to help students develop and apply their spatial skills across the sciences, social sciences and the humanities. The spatial sciences is one of a small and elite group of enabling sciences (like statistics) and spatial literacy is rapidly emerging as one of the core literacies that professionals will need to prosper in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
The academic programs and courses hosted by the Spatial Sciences Institute provide multiple entry and exit points such that students may take one or two standalone courses, a minor in spatial studies, or a B.S. in GeoDesign. The latter is a new interdisciplinary field that combines the best of architectural design and urban planning with the spatial sciences and the B.S. in GeoDesign is the first degree of its kind to be offered in the world.
Each of our GIS courses combine fundamental geographic information science knowledge as well as “hands-on” skills and lead to a series of upper division courses focused on specific application domains that are scattered across Dornsife College and the professional schools.
