Access internationally renowned faculty at USC Spatial Sciences Institute with the convenience of online classes.

Explore our four online graduate programs – three graduate certificates and a Master of Science in Geographic Information Science and Technology – to see which one is right for your educational goals and professional needs. These programs serve as an academic pathway for students who are motivated to address major global challenges and make future technological breakthroughs via geospatial technologies.

Students in both the 28-unit M.S. in GIST and the 16-unit GIST Graduate Certificate online programs take the same three core courses. GIST Graduate Certificate students take just one more elective course. Students in the master’s degree program complete three electives and a master’s thesis, which involves designing and executing an original, advanced, independent investigation in their GIS field under the direction of a faculty committee. The online M.S. in GIST can be completed in as few as five semesters (i.e., 20 months).
