Esri GIS Software
The Spatial Sciences Institute administers the campus site license agreement with Esri that allows for an unlimited number of seats (licenses) so long as: (1) the software is used for USC-specific academic or administrative purposes, and (2) the software installations are restricted to computers owned or controlled by the university.
Our goal is simple – we want to promote and support spatial thinking, analysis, modeling and visualization in all of its various forms across the university. The Esri campus site license provides a rich array of extensible geospatial resources and is paid for by the USC community that uses it based on the price list reproduced below. The more users, the lower the cost, and the prices are revised annually to accommodate changes in use and the ways in which the various geospatial tools and data are bundled by Esri.
ArcGIS Online
ArcGIS Online is Esri’s cloud GIS platform that enables faculty to incorporate meaningful GIS use in large-enrollment classes with minimal impact on their workload or the institution’s IT staff and infrastructure. In addition, subscriptions to ArcGIS Online will allow faculty and students to publish intelligent web maps and make them widely available without calling on or requiring in-house server infrastructure and technical expertise. Faculty should contact Leilani Banks in the Spatial Sciences Institute (lbanks@dornsife.usc.edu; (213) 821-2193) to learn more about these opportunities.

5 The ArcGIS App for Smartphones and Tablets lets you navigate maps, collect and report data, and perform GIS analysis. It is a part of the ArcGIS system and provides additional opportunities to: (a) discover content by browsing map galleries from ArcGIS Online or leverage services from your existing enterprise GIS; (b) display maps and capture information; (c) develop a custom application or brand your own application specific to your business needs; and (d) extend your GIS to a wider audience.
